On this date in 1865, General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern
Virginia to General Grant.
Nearly all of the fighting and killing in the American
Civil War was done.
I have ancestors who fought—and one who died—in the Civil War. I hope
all of them, and their brothers in arms, rest in peace.
Requiescat in pace.
